5K TRAINING!
Yup, I did it. I'm not there yet, but should be by December 5th! It took me a while to recover from the flu and get started, but I managed to do it.
My roommate Katy ended up telling me about the Couch to 5K app for my iPod Touch, and it has been amazing! I had to download an update to be able to use the app, so the whole process ended up setting me back about $9 and 2 hours. TOTALLY worth it!! It allows me to play my own playlist while operating the app that tells me when to walk and when to run.
I "trained" three days last week (run 60 seconds, walk 90 seconds) and went last night for the first night of the second week (run 90 seconds, walk 2 minutes). I'm proud to say that I am still alive and kicking!
Thanks so much for all of the responses to my last post. Everybody else knowing about this and cheering me on is making it so much easier to stay on track! My next task: get some real-person running shoes. Suggestions welcomed.
P.S. If you can't tell, I'm prettttttttty pumped.

I have nikes right now but I really like brooks shoes better. In fact they will be a purchase when my current shoes are done for. I always go to a running shoe store...they can help you find the right type of shoe based on how you walk/run...that way if you need more support for a different part of your foot you get exactly what you need. Plus they are super great and know what they are doing! :) I'm really proud of you and hope to be getting back on track soon myself! Love you and had fun with you this weekend...thanks for making it great in less than great circumstances.
Definitely go to Fleet Feet or another running store where they can watch you run on a treadmill and find the perfect shoes for your feet and running style: http://www.fleetfeetnashville.com/
I personally love Brooks shoes. I've been wearing the Adrenaline GTS for 6 years of running. That's the other nice thing about Fleet Feet -- your first pair of shoes will cost you a lot, but if they work for you, you can just keep ordering the same style online for cheaper (I get the "old" models) whenever you need replacements.
Good luck!
